Introduction and Objective: The primary objective of this study was to investigate the antecedents and consequences of academic leadership among managers at Urmia University.
Methodology: This applied research adopted a descriptive-correlational design employing structural equation modeling. The statistical population comprised all managers at Urmia University during the 2024–2025 academic year (N = 151), with data collected via census sampling. Validated questionnaires were utilized, including the Academic Leadership Questionnaire (Bass & Avolio, 1995), Emotional Intelligence Scale (Wong & Law, 2002), General Self-Efficacy Scale (Schwarzer & Jerusalem, 1995), Management Studies Inventory (Yukl, 2013), Organizational Culture Assessment Instrument (Denison et al., 2006), Perceived Organizational Support Survey (Eisenberger et al., 1986), Organizational Values Scale (Jafari Bahmanabad, 1395/2016), Balanced Scorecard for Organizational Performance (Kaplan & Norton, 1992), and Innovative Work Behavior Scale (Scott & Bruce, 1994). Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficients and structural equation modeling in SPSS 28 and SmartPLS 3.
Findings: Results revealed that personality traits (emotional intelligence and self-efficacy), managerial skills, and organizational factors (organizational culture, perceived support, and values) significantly predict academic leadership among Urmia University managers. Furthermore, academic leadership was positively associated with employee job satisfaction, organizational performance, and innovation as key outcomes.
Discussion and Conclusion: The findings underscore that strengthening individual and organizational antecedents of academic leadership can foster enhanced job satisfaction, performance, and innovation at Urmia University. Accordingly, the development of targeted managerial training programs is imperative to improve overall institutional effectiveness.
